Friday Night 29th May
Team members Rocky and Bruce headed down during the day, with Mackie flying down with his family, the new member of the Team, as Kim was unable to attend due to other commitments.
Rolly was alreday in town, and when Madmaori arrived at 9ish the boyz were already indulging quite heavily, looks like it was going to be a good weekend. ;D ;D
After some sneaky tire testing, in between the indulging, the team tucked down to sleep at the Venue, the old Wainuiomata Colledge, at around 2.30 am.
Saturday 30th May
6am was wakeup time, grabbed breakfast, showered, meet up with all the other teams, and made sure the cars were good to go.
The official practice proved to be a fun occasion, as we all ran the wall for the first lap for a joke, as we had been dubbed the Wall Riders Incorporated, and then Mackie was inducted into the team the good ole fashioned Stockcar way, with Madmaori rolling him in turn 1, and Rocky showing no mercy with fully tapped out smash into his car. There goes the NEW body, and the car coming away getting a bent roll cage, Ooppsss. The perfect way to show everyone else what we were there for.... ;D ;D ;D
R1 - Vs Stratford Stormers, LOST 45 Points, not a good start......
R2 - Vs Mooloo Meanderers, WON 175 Points
R3 - Vs Manawatu Young Guns, WON 1st, 2nd 3rd & 4th, the first clean sweep of the competition. 185 Points. This proved to be the highlight of the day.
R4 - Vs Stratford Scappers, LOST 50 Points
R5 - Vs Canterbury Crushers, WON 120 Points
R6 - Vs Hawkes Bay Heat, WON 120 Points
R7 - Vs Wellington Wildcats, LOST 30 Points
R8 - Vs Wellington Pu55ycats, WON 150 Points
R9 - Vs Hawkes Bay FireHawkes, LOST 40 Points, which was followed by a joyous YEEHAAA from the Firehawkes Team members
R10 - BYE, time to work on the cars........
R11 - Vs Palmerston North Panthers, WON 140 Points. An unsuspected win, as the racing was hard, plus Panthers man Morrie, put madmaori on his roof in the Infield
The racing standard was fast, and markedly higher than last year, and the Palmerston Panthers proved to be the dark horses of the competition, being the 2nd highest scoring after the Top home team, the Wellington Wildcats.
Our team was having one of those days, when nothing went well, we weren't happy with the cars, consequently we were having problems gelling.
Mackie proved to be the real workhorse winning enough races for the Team to get 1055 Points, JUST enough to scrape us trough to 6th place, and a slot in the Top Group for the Finals the next day.
That night we were a bit subdued, as most of us worked feverishly on the cars to get back our confidence, still we didn't hit the sack untill 2.30am, AGAIN !!!!!
Sunday 31st May, FINALS DAY.
The team awoke to the hussle and bussle of a new day, but man it was COLD, so cold that it actually snowed outside BBrrrrrrrrrr.
We got to work peaking the batteries ready for the onslaught of some blooming hard racing to come.
R1 - Vs Hawkes Bay Heat, Won 135 Points, 1 down, 4 to go
R2 - Vs Palmerston Panthers, a hard fought battle, with the team finally managing to slow down their speedster Karlos near the end of the race WON 125 Points
R3 - Vs Wellington Wilcats, WON Just piping them at the post, 100 Points
R4 - Vs Stratford Stormers, WON 145 Points, another hard fought battle.......
Before our R5 race, the FINAL race of the B Main group was run, with The Canterbury Crushers topping the pool with 525 Points, over last years B Main winners, The Hawkes Bay Firehawkes
And so it came down to the very last race of the Teams Champs
R5 - Vs Stratford Scappers, the only other team to win every race up untill this one.
Mackie was the target, so Rocky took on the roll of running, while the rest of the team covered Rocky and paid great attention to the Alloy Tank of the Scrappers. Things were looking good for the win, up untill the 17th lap of the 20 lap final. The Scrappers managed to slow Rocky down enough to let the tank sneak through, and even though we put in all all out effort to slow it down, come race finish, the Stratford Scappers were the NEW New Zealand Teams Champs.
LOST 55 Points
So there it is, The Taupo Tornado's are now the 2NZ Team. Congradulations to The Stratford Scrappers, and to the Wellington Wildcats for coming in 3rd. It was an awesome effort from all the members of the Team.
Another trophy for the cabinet ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
